Food: Am I Really What I Eat?
Participants will learn how to think critically about food choices, read labels and evaluate foods.
Topics covered also include:
Metabolic Profiling – a means of assessing foods that are most appropriate for an individual’s metabolism. Not what friends say, not what some "expert" says, not what may be read in a magazine -- rather, a diet that is precisely tailored and customized for THAT person’s metabolism. High protein, high fat, low carb? Vegetarian? Low fat, low protein, high complex carbs?
Glycemic Index (GI) – a ranking of carbohydrate-containing foods, based on the food's effect on blood sugar compared with a standard reference food's effect. High-glycemic foods (i.e., rapidly absorbed carbohydrates such as white bread, soft drinks, snacks, etc.) result in a rapid rise in blood sugar followed by an insulin spike and drop in blood sugar. This results in hunger and a tendency to eat more often, which may lead to increased calorie intake, obesity and health issues.
Benefits:
- Increased understanding of how food quality is a key factor in human biochemistry
- Increased understanding that all carbohydrate foods are not created the same and can behave very differently in our bodies.
- Knowledge that can lead to weight loss, reduced body fat and reduction in risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
- Reduction in hunger and more balanced body energy
(Format: one, two or three-hour programs)
Eating for Energy … The Fuel That Keeps you Going
The program teaches participants how to select food that will sharpen the mind, modify moods and increase energy. In the process they will be able to overcome the daily “energy slumps”, thus becoming more effective and productive in their jobs.
Participants will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of the ways that foods affect body chemistry and energy levels
- Increase their knowledge of healthy substitutes for some of the common addictive items such as sugar and caffeine
- Discover new ways to combat fatigue and tiredness
(Format: one-hour program)
Break Free From Your Cravings
Do you feel like foods have control over you? Do you binge on low quality foods? Do you eat for reasons other than hunger? Food is often used to "tranquilize" anxiety caused by unresolved emotional issues. Until one's underlying anger, fear, guilt, trauma, etc. are dissipated, the eating disorder will remain. EFT can target and relieve those underlying feelings that drive the urgent food cravings, compulsive overeating, and other sabotaging behaviors.
